If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you know I was able to attend Utah Fashion Week this year. I even won VIP tickets and got to go to the VIP Launch Party- it was like a dream come true! So I obviously had to be dressed to kill. I didn’t want to blow a ton of money on a fancy dress that I would only wear once, so I thought about renting one. That is where the awesome company Rent the Runway comes in!
Rent the Runway Review
I thought I would do a little Rent the Runway review on my experience using them for Utah Fashion Week. So what is Rent the Runway, and how does it work? The New York Times said it best when they said it is like “A Netflix model for Haute Couture.” Basically, you can shop for any occasion (weddings, graduations, fashion week, etc.) and browse through thousands of styles. They have something for everyone, with over 300 of the top designers and runway looks. If you are lucky, you might live nearby one of their physical stores, or you can shop online like me!
Once you have found a style you like for your occasion, you choose the best fit (the best part is almost each style comes in regular, petite, and long). And if you are anything like me and don’t know which size to get, or you feel like your body type is hard to dress without trying something on, don’t worry! My favorite thing about Rent the Runway is they give you a FREE backup size! So it is totally stress free. Don’t know if you’re a 6 or an 8 in that dress? No need to worry- they can send you both sizes for the price of one! And you can always read through the customer reviews for each style and see if there are any tips or tricks about sizing left by people who have actually worn the dress.
Okay, so you’ve found the prefect dress and you’ve picked the size, now what? Choose the time frame you need the dress for. They go in 4 day intervals. So if you just need it for the weekend, pick four days, and if you need it longer for an event like a wedding (or Fashion Week!), select the 8 day option. Its best to choose a delivery date 1-2 days before your event, that way you can try everything on or exchange if necessary.
Once your event is over, all that is left to do is ship your dress back, for FREE! Rent the Runway provides a prepaid shipping label as well as a nice carrying case for the dress. Just box it back up and drop it off at the post office by noon on your return date and you are set! Best part- you don’t have to do the laundry! They do all of the dry cleaning for you. Rent the Runway is really such a hassle-free way to have an amazing double-take-worthy outfit for every event you need to attend. And, this way you get to have a new FABULOUS look each time and don’t have to worry about repeating outfits!
For the first day of Utah Fashion Week, we had the VIP Launch Party, which was cocktail attire with a black and metallic color scheme (Check out my second RTR look here!). I don’t attend many fancy events, and didn’t have anything close to a cocktail dress. So I browsed through the lovely dresses from Rent the Runway and narrowed it down to this one. It is a chic ML Monique Lhuillier gown and features a feathered lace hemline with a high-low cut and made from black silk faille. This dress was sleeveless, however, so to keep up my modesty standards, I layered it with a black shirt underneath that has black lace sleeves, along with my favorite Halftee. I loooooved this dress, especially the unique “spider lace” design, the high-low cut, and the fact that it has POCKETS! I felt like a total Lady Boss in this dress. My vision for this dress was to make it a little more edgy. I paired it with a metallic belt, a black faux leather jacket, my favorite leopard clutch, Prada inspired sunglasses, and red strappy heels for a pop of color. Oh, and I did my hair for once ha.
